Smart networking tips for your
job search
We all know that networking can
be another great way to find a job, and yet most
people feel their network is far too small or
they say they don’t have any networks. I
want to share with you the secret of how to grow
your network naturally.
First of all, who and where and
what is your network? It is simply the relationships
you have with people, and when it comes to job
hunting, the people around you no matter where
they are, need to know you are looking. The more
people you know, that are willing to talk with
you about your job searching, I believe the faster
you’ll find a new job.
Here’s a great tip to growing
your network: Make it your goal meet new people
all the time. Look for ways to help fellow work
mates, friends and family, neighbours, people
in your professional environment, every new person
you meet. Its all about talking to people and
meeting new people everyday!
Get out there … is my advice
and find people to talk to.
Something I recently I have done,
is find out more about fellow business associates,
they may have a business need or require a tradesperson,
then I may know of someone that is in that trade
or service that I can refer to my business associate.
The important thing is to cultivate a habit of
being interested in the needs of others. Once
you discover their needs, you are well on the
way to finding a way that you can help. Have people
remember you.
Utilising the group of network
people you currently have around you , can be
so rewarding to your job search. People talk and
when people talk, they also remember something
from your last meeting. I guess some of you may
say to yourself “I don’t have time
to network ! Think again. Really it does happen
naturally. Here is a great tip I have : The more
you know about an industry / company, the better
your chances are of getting in the job—and
the more people you've networked within that industry
and company, the more you'll know.
Remember when you are out and
about always aim to make a positive first impression.
You have only one opportunity to make that first
impression. Always introduce yourself. Say your
name, have them remember you ! This can be a confidence
thing and if you are unsure then practice.
Remember its not just about finding
the right people to talk to - you just never know
who they know and who they talk to.
