Thinking outside of the square
& some
success stories at ICG
This is to let you know it sometimes
doesn’t matter where you have been or what
you have been doing, there is always an opportunity
around the corner. It’s all about looking
for the right opportunities and talking to the
right people. We have talked about the importance
of networking and marketing yourself, and how
to find the right fit in the right job. We have
many candidates with wonderful success stories,
and I’d like to take the opportunity now
to share a few of them with you.
Front Line Administrator
We had an outgoing candidate
that came to ICG looking for a role as an office
junior or receptionist. The only experience they
had was cleaning for a family business. Well,
what a surprise it was when I met with this candidate
and found she had an outgoing personality, was
wonderfully presented, and possessed great work
ethics. We presented this candidate for a frontline
entry level reception position and she was successful.
Moving forward from this role she is now a Frontline
Administrator for a successful New Zealand brokering
company and doing extremely well in the role.
The employers think she is fabulous and makes
a real difference to the office.
Administrator
This applicant came to us as
a referral from an ICG Associate to find a temporary
assignment or permanent role, having been looking
for the right position to fit into after spending
several months on ACC due to a recent back injury.
We managed to place this candidate into a full-time
administration roll, for an initial 6 month term
which has now become a permanent position. They
love the job, and the location is perfect as well!
Commercial Real Estate
We met with a candidate a long
time ago who was a passive seeker, looking for
a complete change of direction, but not sure in
what direction to head. We worked closely together
to identify his skills and attributes, and kept
in close contact with him, notifying him of anything
we thought may be of interest, and keeping him
up to date on any market changes that may affect
him. Then another consultation was set up and
we discussed the opportunities available in Commercial
Real Estate, which resulted in a meeting with
a company in this field, and a subsequent job
proposition. The candidate is now a successful
Commercial Real Estate Consultant.

Personal Assistant Administrator
This candidate had just finished attending
secretarial school, where she had been developing her
computer and administration skills. Following her course
she gained work experience in a front line position
for six months before coming to see us. When I met her
she was very well presented and tested well in both
written and verbal communication, and she possessed
fantastic computer skills. All she wanted was an opportunity
to prove herself. We recognised her well developed organisational
skills and her ability to think outside the square,
and she now works full time here at ICG, where she does
a wonderful job as our Office Manager!
Shipping Administrator
This candidate had been a stay at home
mum for the last 12 years, and was now looking to re-enter
the workforce. While at home, she had been looking after
her husband’s business accounts, and she also
had previous experience in the shipping industry. When
she came into our office we were all thoroughly impressed
with her wonderful attitude and personality, and we
decided to place her on a temp assignment, assisting
another one of our clients. Although these clients later
wanted her to stay on full-time, we had already placed
her in another position, such was the demand for her
services. She now works as a full-time shipping administrator,
and is thriving in her role.
So really it doesn’t matter what you are doing
now, it’s all about having the right attitude
to go out there and get what you want.
Best of luck - Nikki
