31 days to go until 1st of September & then SPRING!!!

What’s happening in the market today? Well, we have seen a lot of changes in the recruitment sector with many more candidates coming through and they need to have the best CV presentation available. Candidates are going to find more competition for a limited number of job opportunities, and the CV is their first impression to a potential employer, see below.

Some companies are taking the option to offer short term contracts or temp staff rather than replace. This is due to the uncertainty that they may be experiencing in the current economic climate – however this is only a temporary measure as the market is constantly changing and everyone needs to keep up with the changes as and when they happen. As usual “it’s all about how we think”, and once spring hits we will all see an attitude change and with the Reserve Bank cutting interest rates late last month and potentially again prior to Christmas, we will see a change in peoples thinking and more positive moves in the market.

My advice to you is to accept the market as it is, go with it and try to do things differently than you have been before and make sure you continue to market and network yourself out there.

Nikki Edge – Leading Edge Work Place Health and Safety

Baseline health screening is an important part of the Pre-Employment Process. This enables the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 to be met and ensures that no prospective employee is placed at risk, by exposure to a hazard within the workplace. These are designed to be specific to the hazards that the employee will be exposed to, for example musculoskeletal assessment for ergonomic issues or hearing tests for noise exposure. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Exit Health Assessments are a useful tool to ensure that a person’s health is documented prior to exiting the workplace. Once again this is hazard specific. If you require further information please contact Nikki Edge, Occupational Health & Safety Nurse Consultant, 027 537 1156 or nikki@leadingedge.gen.nz
