Well who can believe that we are approaching
the shortest day? The year is flying by,
and what a year it has been so far! We
welcome Jacky Wither on board as a consultant.
Jacky comes to us with experience in temporary
recruitment and an enthusiasm to get back
into the industry after taking time out
to look after her son, who is now a year
old. Jacky is a personal trainer, who
comes from a rural background, and loves
playing all sports. One of her favourite
parts of recruitment is meeting people
and learning about all sorts of industries,
so she is really looking forward to meeting
as many of you as possible!
So, what has been happening in the market
place in Christchurch? The news appears
to be dominated with reports of company
shutdowns and job losses. We are now operating
in a market where there are more candidates
than there are positions available, meaning
employers have more choice when looking
for a new employee. For a job seeker it
has never been more important to have
a CV that stands out from the crowd, and
ensure that you create a great impression
in an interview. ICG can help with both
of these things, so please don’t
hesitate to contact us if you want any
assistance. Employers are still recruiting
staff, and star candidates are still out
there, so with the proactive thinking
of ICG we hope to match the perfect person
to the perfect job whenever possible!
On that note, I look forward to putting
more faces to names over the coming weeks,
and would love to hear from you if you
have any questions or comments. Thanks
again for your support.

The Big Bog Beard-Off for the Multiple
Sclerosis Society
Staff and patrons of The Bog Irish Bar
in Cashel Mall will forego the hot toddies
and mulled wine to warm themselves this
winter. They are planning a more traditional
form of warmth, facial hair!
Beginning 1 June men throughout Christchurch
will begin to grow their beards in the
hopes of raising money and awareness for
Multiple Sclerosis. The beard growing
will continue until The Big Bog Beard-Off
on Sunday, 30 August when the beards will
finally be shaven off.
‘This will be a fantastic start
to MS Awareness Week’ says Lindsey
Kerr, Project Coordinator for the MS and
Parkinson’s Society. ‘Our
Carnation Day Street Appeal on 4 September
will then be the grand finale to an amazing
week. But we don’t want people to
forget that volunteers are still needed
to collect on the 4th. Volunteer forms
are available on our website at www.ms-pd.org.nz.’
Everyone is getting into the spirit of
the Beard-Off and The Bog has even arranged
for Ian Costello, known as the Celtic
‘Grand-daddy’ of NZ and member
of The Black Velvet Band, to shave off
his beard, which he has been growing for
35 years. If $2,500 is raised the beard
will be shaved and if $7,500 is raised
he has agreed to shave his head as well.
Ian is getting quite nervous, as the Big
Bog Beard-Off is growing much larger than
he ever thought possible.
If you would like to join the Big Bog
Beard-Off or volunteer to collect on Carnation
Day, go to www.ms-pd.org.nz
for more information.

And
finally a bit of humour – performance
reviews!
e-mail one
Attention: Human Resources
Joe Smith, my assistant
programmer, can always be found
hard at work in his cubicle. Joe works independently,
without
wasting company time talking to colleagues.
Joe never
thinks twice about assisting fellow employees,
and he always
finishes given assignments on time. Often
Joe takes extended
measures to complete his work, sometimes
skipping
coffee breaks. Joe is an individual who
has absolutely no
vanity in spite of his high accomplishments
and profound
knowledge in his field. I firmly believe
that Joe can be
classed as a high-calibre employee, the
type which cannot be
dispensed with. Consequently, I duly recommend
that Joe be
promoted to executive management, and a
proposal will be
executed as soon as possible.

I wrote the report sent to you earlier today.
Kindly read only the odd numbered lines
